I LOVE this dress! It’s from the McCalls Learn to sew for fun pattern line and as such is a very quick and easy sew. I actually made this dress awhile ago but realized that I forgot to blog about it because I’ve been trying to take my pics outside. Unfortunately that’s not always possible and it’s resulted in my not photographing some looks so I’ll photograph inside if necessary. It’s such a joy to wear, I should definitely make this one again soon.
Pattern Review:
Pattern Description: Pullover tunic and dresses (close-fitting through bust) have neck band and narrow hem. A: Side slits. A, C, D: Long sleeves. B: Cap sleeves. D: Back slit. Close-fitting leggings have elasticized waist, no side seams and stitched hem.
Pattern Sizing: 4-14 and 16-26
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Close enough. The maxi on the envelope used long sleeves I made it with short sleeves. The long sleeves would make it great for the Fall.
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions are super easy since the pattern is for beginners.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I love that the maxi is made with a neck band instead of just folding over.
Fabric Used:I used a polyester knit. It’s heavier than an ITY but not too thick.
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: No changes.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will definitely make this again and recommend it for sewers of all levels.
Conclusion: This is a great pattern that I know I’ll make to wear all year long with the sleeve options.
You picked the perfect fabric for this one! It’s a lovely dress! I had to go and see if I had this pattern in my collection cause this is so great.

Wow! I might just have to try it- I’m very paranoid about pattern alterations, though I know I shouldn’t be 🙂 Thank you for the review- great work.
