I thought this pattern was so cute when it came out, specifically View D. I’d envisioned it as a cute, casual black run around town dress for the summer. Seeing all of the cute versions online convinced me to take the plunge. This really is a super easy sew even though it took me a couple of weeks with all of my starts and stops.
Now let me call your attention to the length of the dress on the model but hey, models are tall right? Me? not so much but I went ahead and added two inches to the length anyway just to be safe. I made this dress as we were headed out for a weekend get away and of course I finished it just in time to pack it. I threw it in the suitcase and was ready to go. Imagine my surprise when I put the dress on and baby, it was not thick thigh ready, let alone safe for bending over. I was sure I’d be arrested if a gust of wind came through. Luckily I always overpack come prepared so I just wore something else that day. I didn’t want to let this cutie go to waste thought so I wore it as a tunic and it works. I do still want the dress I envisioned so I will eventually make it again but for now, I’m happy.
Pattern Review:
Pattern Description: Misses’ Knit Trapeze Dress with Neckline and Sleeve Variations
Pattern Sizing: Size 6-22
Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? It did!
Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions were super easy and it was a very quick sew.
What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I loved how quickly the dress came together. I’m always short on time so I love simple sews. What I did not like is how short this dress is drafted. I’m only 5’4″ and I added two inches to the dress and it was still so short I wasn’t comfortable wearing it as a dress so I wore it as a tunic over jeans.
Fabric Used: I used a ponte knit from fabricmartfabrics.com
Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: The only design change I made was to omit the zipper, with the knit fabric I really didn’t need it.
Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others?: I think I might sew it again eventually but I’d add at least 6 inches to it so that I can actually wear it as a dress.
Conclusion: This is a quick and easy sew, great for beginners but be sure to do a length check with the tissue before cutting your fabric.
Very cute tunic and it would be a cute dress too.
