McCall’s 7348 – Floral Hankerchief Hem Dress

IMG_1334Have I told you how much I’m loving the new look of McCall’s Learn to Sew for Fun pattern line!  These are not your beginner patterns of old. They are actually some very cute styles, and best of all the work up super quick which is just what I need right now if I have any hope of staying in the sewing game with my busy schedule between my business, helping my husband with his business, my three littles and my super hectic schedule. I know some sewists get hyped about challenging techniques and that’s great, but sewing is my refuge from all of the challenges in my daily life so easy peasy it is for me.

I decided to make View C but shorten the sleeves for summer. This dress can literally be cut and sewn in an evening.

Pattern Review:

Pattern Description:  Flared pullover dresses (close-fitting through bust) have neck band, round neckline, hemline variations, and narrow hem. A, B: Short sleeves. B, C, D: Wrong side shows on hemline. B, D: High-low hem. C: Three-quarter length sleeves. D, E: Sleeveless.

Pattern Sizing: 4-26

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Pretty close, I just made my dress with short sleeves.

Were the instructions easy to follow? Super easy as it is from the learn to sew series for beginners.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern: With the limited time that I have to sew, I love how quickly the dress came together and I like that they use a band to finish the neck rather than the fold over method usually used on beginner patterns.

Fabric Used: An ITY floral print from Fabric Mart Fabrics

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: No alterations other than shortening the sleeves for the view I made.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will likely make this again but I have some others I want to get to first.

Conclusion:  I love this pattern, stylish, easy and very versatile. I’ve already worn it with sandals and chucks.

M7122 – Easy Floral Maxi

I LOVE this dress! It’s from the McCalls Learn to sew for fun pattern line and as such is a very quick and easy sew. I actually made this dress awhile ago but realized that I forgot to blog about it because I’ve been trying to take my pics outside. Unfortunately that’s not always possible and it’s resulted in my not photographing some looks so I’ll photograph inside if necessary. It’s such a joy to wear, I should definitely make this one again soon.

Pattern Review:

Pattern Description: Pullover tunic and dresses (close-fitting through bust) have neck band and narrow hem. A: Side slits. A, C, D: Long sleeves. B: Cap sleeves. D: Back slit. Close-fitting leggings have elasticized waist, no side seams and stitched hem.

Pattern Sizing: 4-14 and 16-26

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it?  Close enough. The maxi on the envelope used long sleeves I made it with short sleeves. The long sleeves would make it great for the Fall.

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions are super easy since the pattern is for beginners.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?  I love that the maxi is made with a neck band instead of just folding over.

Fabric Used:I used a polyester knit. It’s heavier than an ITY but not too thick.

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: No changes.

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? I will definitely make this again and recommend it for sewers of all levels.
Conclusion: This is a great pattern that I know I’ll make to wear all year long with the sleeve options.

I love the drape of this fabric.

McCall’s 7099 – Lace Print Jumpsuit

7099I actually made this jumpsuit months ago to wear to the cocktail party/fashion show portion of the annual Mimi G sewing conference this year.   i bought the fabric specifically for this even longer ago than that because I thought it would be a great dress up option.

This jumpsuit went together so quickly and I can definitely see myself making it again.  It’s definitely a good one to try for those a bit apprehensive about the jumpsuit.  I used an ITY for this version but it can also easily be made using a ponte or double knit.

Pattern Description: MISSES’ ROMPER AND JUMPSUITS: Loose-fitting romper and jumpsuits have raised neckline, mock wrap, gathered, blouson bodice, front band extending to back neckline, elasticized waist, and side pockets. B, C and D: tapered.

Pattern Sizing: Combinations: A5(6-8-10-12-14), E5(14-16-18-20-22)

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Definitely!

Were the instructions easy to follow? The instructions for this one are pretty straight forward and simple to follow.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern?I like the style and fit of the pattern and there are sleeveless and short options as well. I also like that the instructions include a snap for the cross over top. I often add one to this style to keep the top from flopping open but it’s nice that they included it in the pattern instructions for newbies.

Fabric Used: ITY Knit

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made no design changes or alterations

Would you sew it again? Would you recommend it to others? There are no current plans but I could see myself making this again.

Conclusion:  A great, on trend pattern, easy and great for beginners.

McCalls 6886 – My new TNT dress pattern

Wow! I knew I’d been away for awhile but didn’t realize for just how long.  I’m sure it’s partially because I’ve worn and sewn some pieces that I thought would be great for the blog but sadly have just not had time to photograph.  I have been working like crazy over the past few months and by the time I get home it’s pretty dark.  I used to take my photos in the house but since I started taking them outside I try to avoid the in-house pics as much as possible.  Anyway . . . the temps around here are warming up and since I knew the hottest day of the week was coming up, I decided to make a new dress, but it had to be quick.  This McCalls pattern definitely fit the bill.  This dress is simple and cute and the pattern offers lots of options for length, neckline and sleeve length so you can have lots of fun with it.

Did it look like the photo/drawing on the pattern envelope once you were done sewing with it? Definitely!

Were the instructions easy to follow? Super, I didn’t need them though because the dress is just that easy.

What did you particularly like or dislike about the pattern? I like the style of the dress but I love the ease of putting it together only 3 easy pieces for this version

Fabric Used: I used an ITY for this version

Pattern alterations or any design changes you made: I made View C beause I love the open neckline but made it with short sleeves. I also pegged the hem a bit for a better fit.

Conclusion: This is a great looking and easy dress to make. It has multiple lengths and neckline options so you can make many versions of this dress and have them all look different.
