Hi, luvs! I’m in such a good mood today and am having a great day. I don’t always do OOTD posts because since I started this as a sewing blog, I sometimes forget that you guys might benefit from some of my great RTW finds too. Now I wouldn’t necessarily describe myself as a bargain/budget shopper, however I do love a good deal, especially when it comes to clothes because as a seamstress, I just find it very difficult to pay full retail prices for things that I could simply make (if I had the time). I do however buy a lot of basics because I don’t find it quite as fun sewing them. If you don’t sew, or if you don’t want to sew every outfit, you still don’t have to break the bank to look pulled together. I put this outfit together for $55 for everything other than the shoes. The jeans are from F21, the basic turtleneck is from Wal-Mart (Tip: For a roomier fit, check out the men’s department for basic layering pieces like this. There is usually a broader size range, and they are usually cheaper as they don’t generally price gouge men the way they do plus-size women) and this color-blocked moto jacked is a Target find from a year ago add my oldie but goodie Steve Madden booties and I was ready to go.
I found this faux fur collared vest a few months ago at Forever 21 but it’s one of those peculiar pieces that demands just the right weather, not so cold that you need a jacket over it but not so warm that the collar will be to warm. Today was that day. It was great paired with my relaxed fit jeans and Steve Madden snow boots. Now it NEVER snows where I live but it does rain from time to time and these boots keep my feet nice and warm.
Here’s a close up of the boots.
It has actually started to rain here and boy do we need it. It’s always harder for me to get dressed in this kind of weather because all I can think about is staying warm and dry. For years, Fall/Winter clothes were all about utility to me. Over the past few years I have made a little more effort to include a style element. This blanket scarf from Target is great for injecting a little bit of color and it worked well to protect me from the light rain.
I love these Steve Madden Troopa-2 boots, they’re super comfortable and come in four great colors. You’ll be seeing these quite a bit this during the cold and wet months. I love over-sized sweaters because they are super comfy, while I do appreciate a tailored/fitted look, I have to admit, it is a little more work making sure everything stays in place and when I’m running errands I just want things to be easy.
We’ve had such a strange start to Fall this year, I am way behind on preparing for the season. Now I most certainly don’t buy a whole new wardrobe each season but I do try to add key pieces to enhance what I already have as I find that just a few new pieces can refresh your whole wardrobe. Because the weather had regularly been in the mid-70’s and even as high as the 90’s you can gather that oversized sweaters, ponchos, cardigans and coats have not been high on my priority list BUT the other day I was in Target and saw this printed hooded poncho sweater (wow! That’s a mouthful betcha can’t say that five times fast) and I had to have it and it was a steal at 40% off.
The jeans are Old Navy mid-rise Rockstar jeans which I love because I dot have to pull them up all day or be worried about flashing people like I do with low-rise pants and the boots are Bandolino.
Hi! My birthday was this past weekend and I started off the celebration with lunch with the hubby. We’re still getting used to all this free time, now that our youngest has started school. I knew we were going to dinner the next day so I saved the dress I made for that (I’ll show you that later this week). But I still wanted to pull something cute and casual together for my date.
Both the sweater and leggings are from Forever 21. Now I know a lot of my plus size lovlies don’t usually go to Forever 21 because the store is mostly straight sizes. However, depending on where you go, they are bring more plus size merchandise in store and of course, there is always online. the leggings are old but I got the sweater a few weeks back with a couple of other pieces I hope to show you real soon.
Since it was my birthday, I got babe to take a picture with me (he hates pictures, always has)
He liked the one with his glasses on, but I love it when his glasses are off, he has the most adorable freckles EVER.
I have been many places and seen many things but even after all these years, my most favorite place to be is right next to him. I’ll see you soon!
I have a lot of clothes you guys. But because Fall/Winter is not my favorite season for fashion, in the past I haven’t always put forth the most effort when putting looks together. I decided I was going to do better this go around and actually wear some of the clothes in my closet and avoid the strong pull of the many track suits I own. Although I love color and whimsy for spring and summer looks, most of my fall/winter clothes feature darker solids.
This polka dot sweater is one of the few patterned pieces that I have and I love it. I paired it with a white button down, light denim, booties and a fabulously sparkly statement necklace.
I’m loving these navy shoe Steve Madden booties!
This holiday season was amazing and was a great reflection of how fantastic 2014 was and the great relationships, just how much my hard work this year is paying off, which is great because sometimes while you’re in the thick of it, progress is hard to see and just how fast my kids are growing up which is bitter sweet. While on break I had the pleasure of meeting up with Portia of Posh by Portia and her crew for lunch and laughs. I don’t often take the time to just relax so it was so nice and any time I get to see her beautiful boys it’s a win!
Notice we’re both rocking our Mimi G Cocoon Sweaters. This is version two for me and I’ve already made two more and have two more planned. This is the perfect layering piece and gives any outfit an instant upgrade.
Look at all this cuteness!
We kept getting hit by the cutest little photobomber and he was always posed and ready for the shot.
I’ve already reviewed the cocoon sweater here and definitely recommend it. It’s easy as pie to make and amazing to wear.
We are desparately in need of rain here so I won’t complain about the weather. After being in the house for four days straight my family finally convinced me to go out and join the madness. Thankfully, it wasn’t as bad as I’d anticipated. I wanted to bundle up for the outdoors but not be too warm once we started going in and out of places.
I grabbed this thermal henley, my favorite comfy jeans and riding boots. I have tons of hats but since I cut my hair short a couple of years ago I don’t get to wear them much so I jumped at the chance to wear this oversized studded beanie.
Like I’m sure is true for most of you things have been crazy busy around here. With three birthdays, multiple celebrations and preparing for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday I have been running around non-stop. I am sewing a bit but it’s slow going as I have to keep stopping to deal with real life. The cardigan is quickly becoming one of my most loved pieces because it give you great versatility and can take a simple tee shirt and jeans to a pulled together look.
The Princess wanted to join in the fun.
I hope you guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I will see you next week!
