I found this faux fur collared vest a few months ago at Forever 21 but it’s one of those peculiar pieces that demands just the right weather, not so cold that you need a jacket over it but not so warm that the collar will be to warm. Today was that day. It was great paired with my relaxed fit jeans and Steve Madden snow boots. Now it NEVER snows where I live but it does rain from time to time and these boots keep my feet nice and warm.
Here’s a close up of the boots.
We’ve had such a strange start to Fall this year, I am way behind on preparing for the season. Now I most certainly don’t buy a whole new wardrobe each season but I do try to add key pieces to enhance what I already have as I find that just a few new pieces can refresh your whole wardrobe. Because the weather had regularly been in the mid-70’s and even as high as the 90’s you can gather that oversized sweaters, ponchos, cardigans and coats have not been high on my priority list BUT the other day I was in Target and saw this printed hooded poncho sweater (wow! That’s a mouthful betcha can’t say that five times fast) and I had to have it and it was a steal at 40% off.
The jeans are Old Navy mid-rise Rockstar jeans which I love because I dot have to pull them up all day or be worried about flashing people like I do with low-rise pants and the boots are Bandolino.
First let’s start with a little confession. I have been pretty much MIA over the last few months but I have sewn a little and I have even worn some cute RTW outfits that you guys would love but since I started taking my pics outside, I haven’t wanted to take my pics inside anymore. Now that’s wouldn’t be so bad except I don’t have time before work and I often get home after dark hence the long hiatus. So I’m back to taking inside pictures and I’ll take outside pics when I can because I miss you guys. Now on to the clothes. . .
I’m working from home, running errands and might even take the kids to the movies today so I wanted to be casual and comfortable yet pulled together. I live and work in the same city and all it took was running into a client looking busted one time to teach me that lesson. I picked up these cargo style Khaki’s awhile back but hadn’t had a chance to wear them. I love that they are light weight but offer more coverage than a dress because this California weather is a mess, in the 90’s one day and the 60’s the next. I paired them with a simple while v-neck tee and my denim vest I got from Old Navy. I added a little sparkle with my shoes and jewelry and I was ready to go.
A few of you have asked me about where I get my t-shirts. Now for those of you who’ve never had to search for a plus sized t-shirt that wasn’t a boxy crew neck or super griptastic, it might seem like a strange request but they can be so difficult to find. My plain tees are by Just My Size and I buy multiple black and white ones but they also come in a wide array of colors. I swear by the v-neck tees but they also come in crew neck and I’ve seen them up to size 5X and the best part is that I buy them at Wal Mart for $5 or less. Score! I’ll leave you with a few more pics.
I have a lot of clothes you guys. But because Fall/Winter is not my favorite season for fashion, in the past I haven’t always put forth the most effort when putting looks together. I decided I was going to do better this go around and actually wear some of the clothes in my closet and avoid the strong pull of the many track suits I own. Although I love color and whimsy for spring and summer looks, most of my fall/winter clothes feature darker solids.
This polka dot sweater is one of the few patterned pieces that I have and I love it. I paired it with a white button down, light denim, booties and a fabulously sparkly statement necklace.
I’m loving these navy shoe Steve Madden booties!
This holiday season was amazing and was a great reflection of how fantastic 2014 was and the great relationships, just how much my hard work this year is paying off, which is great because sometimes while you’re in the thick of it, progress is hard to see and just how fast my kids are growing up which is bitter sweet. While on break I had the pleasure of meeting up with Portia of Posh by Portia and her crew for lunch and laughs. I don’t often take the time to just relax so it was so nice and any time I get to see her beautiful boys it’s a win!
Notice we’re both rocking our Mimi G Cocoon Sweaters. This is version two for me and I’ve already made two more and have two more planned. This is the perfect layering piece and gives any outfit an instant upgrade.
Look at all this cuteness!
We kept getting hit by the cutest little photobomber and he was always posed and ready for the shot.
I’ve already reviewed the cocoon sweater here and definitely recommend it. It’s easy as pie to make and amazing to wear.
We are desparately in need of rain here so I won’t complain about the weather. After being in the house for four days straight my family finally convinced me to go out and join the madness. Thankfully, it wasn’t as bad as I’d anticipated. I wanted to bundle up for the outdoors but not be too warm once we started going in and out of places.
I grabbed this thermal henley, my favorite comfy jeans and riding boots. I have tons of hats but since I cut my hair short a couple of years ago I don’t get to wear them much so I jumped at the chance to wear this oversized studded beanie.
Like I’m sure is true for most of you things have been crazy busy around here. With three birthdays, multiple celebrations and preparing for the upcoming Thanksgiving holiday I have been running around non-stop. I am sewing a bit but it’s slow going as I have to keep stopping to deal with real life. The cardigan is quickly becoming one of my most loved pieces because it give you great versatility and can take a simple tee shirt and jeans to a pulled together look.
The Princess wanted to join in the fun.
I hope you guys have a wonderful Thanksgiving and I will see you next week!
So a few posts ago, I was raving about my cocoon sweater and how much I loved the shape and wanted more. Mimi G must have been reading my mind because a few short days later she posted this Cocoon Sweater tutorial It was easy to make, even easier to wear and so super cozy. It was great to throw over this black mock tee and leggings to dress it up a bit.
I’m already working on my second version and I can’t wait to wear it. I’ll try to restrain myself but my closet will have at least a few more of these.
I was off today and wanted to stay home and sew. Perfect right? But hubby wanted to take me to lunch so. . . . change of plans. The weather was actually pretty nice when we went out even though it rained earlier so I decided to wear something that would keep me warm enough but not require a coat. I don’t like the extra layers if I don’t absolutely need them but the truth is if I don’t have the exact jacket that I want at the moment, I will often choose to just skip one, shameful I know, but true.
I decided on this casual look of camo mock turtle neck, jeans and riding boots and it was perfect. I love how something so casual and simple can look pulled together.
The weather is definitely changing and I am trying to make a concerted effort to focus on building a Fall/Winter wardrobe that I love. I scored these faux leather leggings at Forever 21. F21 is a great place to try out the trends. You can pick up pieces that you’d like to try out but don’t want to spend a lot of money on. They also have a F21+ section that although it’s not where it should be is steadily getting better and there are even more plus options available online. I also found this top online at Old Navy during a sale no less so I paid less that $20 for both pieces. Now my shoes are by Via Spiga and although I did get them on sale too a few years ago, it was at a slightly different price point, LOL.
Leggings (The Faux ones aren’t available anymore but I like these). I don’t see my particular shirt but this one is similar and I like the color better.
