Mimi G for Simplicity 8222 Skinny Jeans Part III

Hi guys, so this week we put the zipper fly and the front section of the pants together.  For some reason, I didn’t get a ton of pictures of this stage (maybe because I was so happy to be done with the top-stitching) but it’s a lot easier than you think to put a fly front in, like anything, you just need to take your time.  I sew mostly dresses so this was a great refresher for me.

I LOVE dark denim, so much so, I have to remind myself to buy other hues.  It looks so good against the top-stitching thread.  I also bought white top-stitching thread and I might use that on my next pair.

I’m still perfecting my top-stitching but I did make a couple of small bar tacks on the fly.

I can’t wait to try them on next week.  I’m super excited about the possibility of never having to stress over finding a great fitting pair of jeans again, and not having to settle for just what’s out there.

Mimi G for Simplicity 8222 Skinny Jeans

This is the first of at least a couple of posts about this pattern as I plan to blog about my progress sewing my first ever jeans. There have been many popular Jean patterns over the years and I’ve even bought a few but it’s always been my thought that with all of the work involved in sewing jeans (I’ve mentioned many times, how little time I have) I may as well buy them and just sew the rest of my wardrobe, and that was true until they discontinued my favorite style of jeans from Torrid. Since then, I can’t tell how many pair of not quite right jeans I’ve purchased. I LOVE skinny jeans, so when I saw this pattern I knew this would be the one to inspire my maiden voyage into Jean making.  Mimi is currently hosting a 5 part sew along for the jeans HERE and although I want to follow along because I always learn neat tricks and tips from her, I’m so excited about these jeans that I don’t know if I can’t wait five weeks (who am I kidding? I know I can’t) so I will likely forge ahead on my own, at least for this pair but I will be following the sew along closely.

I ordered my fabric and all of my supplies

I cut out my pattern before work today

And will cut my fabric later today.

Here’s what I’m using for the lining for my pocket bags.

I’m SO excited!   Have you ever sewn jeans before? Any tips or tricks you’d like to share? Will you be joining in on the sew along?
